Honoring our Lumbee Elders at the Annual Elder’s Luncheon at the Southeastern Ag Center
What a great time to be able to gather together again this week after three years to recognize and honor our Lumbee Elders at the Annual Elder’s Luncheon at the Southeastern Ag Center (Farmer’s Market).
Throughout this event, the three wisest and oldest elders were honored with a gift. The oldest attendee was Rev. Evert Locklear, who is 103 years old. Lumbee Tribal Chairman John Lowery presented Rev. Locklear with an Eagle feather. The Lumbee Warrior’s Association also honored him with different gifts. Rev. Locklear spoke for a few minutes about the goodness of God and how nothing would be possible without the love and mercy of God.
Thank you to all who attended, participated, and volunteered to make this event successful. Thank you to the Lumbee Tribal Council, current Miss Lumbee (Taylor Locklear), Teen and Miss Lumbee Contestants, as well as the Lumbee Tribe’s staff for volunteering their time to serve and pay homage to our elders.
