Walking Through History: Lumbee Conscription and the Saying of a Landscape

On the land where history happened, join Lumbee Tribal Chairman Harvey Godwin, Jr. and Nancy Fields, Director of the Museum of the Southeast American Indian for a walking tour as they explore the history of Lumbee conscription at Fort Fisher. The tour will discuss the struggles Lumbee men and their families faced as they labored against their will at the fort. The Lumbee as well as other Indian people left lasting marks on the history of Fort Fisher and the legacy of the Civil War. Both events are Saturday, November 20, 2021 beginning at 11:00 am with the Walking Tour and then at 2:00 pm is the Virtual Presentation.

The Virtual presentation is a part of the American Indian Heritage Celebration by the N.C. Museum of History. Registration for the virtual tour https://my.demio.com/ref/P83zzNGKboudUmhT
