The Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina is honored to announce the Michael Olof Paulson Scholarship will open for submissions on August 18, 2026. The Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina is awarding six $5,000 scholarships in memory of Michael.
Michael Olof Paulson’s life touched many people around the globe. Born in Sweden, he was an aviator, a historian and an enthusiast, as well as a great friend. After his death in 2022, his friends from around the nation wanted to celebrate his life and honor his wish to give the gift of education, as directed in his will. They searched across the country for an American Indian Tribe to present the gift to. They chose the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina to honor his will by giving an endowment gift for scholarships. Michael dreamed and lived life to the fullest. That dream now extends to Lumbee students.
How to Apply for the Michael Paulson Scholarship
The Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina is awarding six $5,000 scholarships in memory of Michael Paulson!
Important Dates:
* Application Opens: August 18, 2026 at 8:00 am
* Deadline to Apply: August 25, 2026 at
* Recipients Notified: By September 12, 2026
Eligibility Requirements:
* Must be a full-time student (sophomore or higher in undergrad, or grad school)
* Must have a minimum 2.7 GPA
* Must be an active enrolled member of the Lumbee Tribe (valid enrollment card required)
What You Need to Submit:
1. Completed application (do not retype)
2. Official transcript (from registrar’s office)
3. Copy of Class Schedule
4. Certificate of full-time enrollment provided by your institution
5. Copy of active Tribal Card
6. 3–5 min video on Lumbee Tribal Government and leaders (MP4 format)
7. Two essays (PDF format
8. Resume (PDF format)
9. Two letters of recommendation (PDF format – one must be academic)
