Some roads in our Lumbee Tribal territory are closed today due to flooding from recent rains. Our Lumbee Security Officers have reported that the Lumber River has started flooding across Highway 71 at Campbell Soup Bridge in Maxton and at Recreational Center Road at the Lumbee Tribe Cultural Center. The state closed Recreation Center road off US 74 and Deep Branch Road which runs by the Cultural center before noon today. This flooding is impacting the spillway where our elders fish and walking trails as well as the back dam and back areas of the cultural center are closed due to flooding. If you are at the Lumbee Tribe Cultural center exercising or walking, please use caution due to flooding as well as keep an eye out for wildlife and reptiles.
