We Still Believe

Remembering Mrs. Connee Brayboy

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Connee Brayboy. Mrs. Connee will be remembered as a tribal Advocate, who was often a voice for those in need or no one to speak for them. As the former editor and publisher of the Carolina Indian Voice, she shared many stories and sometimes the struggle of the Lumbee People. Connee departed this life on September 17, 2021. She is preceded by her mother, Mrs. Berna Barton and father, Mr. Lewis Barton; her grandmother Mrs. Ada Locklear; her sisters, Mrs. Ruth Watkins, and Mrs. Renee Barton Tidwell; her brothers, Mr. Erine Barton, Mr. Gary Barton, Mr. Bruce Barton and Mr. Roger Barton; one son, Mr. Raymond Dennis Brayboy.

She leaves to cherish her memories, her husband, Mr. John Raymond Brayboy; her children, Mr. Ken Brayboy, Mr. Len Brayboy (Elizabeth), Mrs. Cecilia Brayboy Fountain (Dexter) and Mr. Joel Brayboy; four grands, Cameron Brayboy, Kailey Locklear, Shylah Brayboy and Raymond Fountain; two great grands, Aiden Hunt and Bradley Brayboy; one sister, Mrs. Gloria Gates (Jimmy) of Graham, NC; one brother, Mr. Ric Barton (Miranda) of Ocean Isle, NC and a host of relatives and friends.
