Tonight, our Lumbee Tribal Council took time to celebrate some of our young people who are doing amazing during the April Business Meeting. The council recognized Ava Grace Cummings. Ava, a senior at NC School of Science and Mathematics, recently won 2nd place and $175,000 prize at the 2025 Regeneron Science Talent Search. Her project focused on STAC3 disorder — also known as Native American myopathy — a rare genetic muscle disorder that primarily affects the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina. Ava's parents are Jason and Synora Hunt Cummings. Ava was joined by her family. She is Preacher Mike and Sister Quae and Rev. Clyde and Monnie Hunt's Grandchild.
