The Lumbee Tribe of N.C. sends our condolences to the family of former Tribal Council Member Mrs. Barbara Lowery. Mrs. Barbara passed away on Sunday. She represented District 14 for one term from 2016-2019.
Obituary
Barbara Rose Lowery of Lumberton was born to the late Thomas B. Lowery and Ceiler Stewart Deese-Lowery in Robeson County on Tuesday, June 28, 1949 and was born into eternity on Sunday, June 15, 2025 at her home surrounded by her loved ones, completing her journey of 75 years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband James C. Lowery, an infant son: Jeremy Lowery, one brother: Slater Deese, one sister: Frances Dial. Mrs. Lowery and her husband were the owners of the Comanche Pottery and Florist. Mrs. Lowery was a true lover of life. She enjoyed traveling, singing, playing music and spending time with her family. She served the Lord by serving her fellowman. As a member of Bayside Freewill Baptist Church for many years, she served as a: Sunday School Teacher, Choir Leader, the Pianist and the Church Treasurer as well as serving as the Lumbee Tribal Council Woman for the Allenton Community, her focus was helping our people.
She leaves to cherish her memory: two daughters: Pamela L. Hunt and husband Tracy and Denita Grimsley and husband Ray and one son: James “Jamie” Lowery all of Lumberton; one sister: Estelle Scott; four grandchildren: Jeremy Lowery (Zulma), Nicholas Hunt, Reanna Grimsley and Christian Grimsley as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral Service will be 3:00 PM Sunday, June 22, 2025, at Bayside Freewill Baptist Church in Lumberton, entombment will follow in the Church Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Saturday, June 21, 2025, at Boles-Biggs Funeral Home in Lumberton.
