Thank you to everyone that attended the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina’s District 2 Community Meeting hosted by Councilmen Gerald Goolsby and Graylen Mitchell at the Southern Spirit Boys & Girls Club. Lumbee Tribal staff provided key information regarding the services and programs offered to Lumbee Tribal members. CIP, Crisis Intervention Program, provides individuals that have experienced a sudden crisis with financial assistance. The Enrollment Department is OPEN until 8 pm on Mondays. The Homeownership Program is currently offering tribal members that qualify the opportunity to own and build their first home with 1% interest.
They also discussed the renovations that will occur at the cultural center. These renovations include completing the other half of the circle of the arbor, adding water and sewage to allow for camping, as well as establishing a historically accurate living village. Staff touched on the creation of the Agriculture & Natural Resources (ANR) and Health & Human Services Departments. The Health & Human Services has collected over 800 surveys that describes and reveals the health needs throughout our tribe. Together we can solve our healthcare problem. The ANR Department is currently working on a Farmers Directory, which will serve as an aid to help farmers with what they may need. They have also established nature and foraging trails at the Lumbee Tribe Cultural Center.
Tribal members are able to apply for services and programs on our website at https://www.lumbeetribe.com/services or call 910.521.7861.
