Lumbee Citizens and supporters from across the nation traveled to Washington this week as Tribal Chairman John L. Lowery and Arlinda Locklear testified before the U.S. Senate Committee on Indian Affairs, urging lawmakers to pass S.107, the Lumbee Fairness Act, legislation to grant full federal recognition to the Lumbee Tribe. The Lumbee Fairness Act was introduced by Senator Thom Tillis (R-NC) and is co-sponsored by Senator Ted Budd (R-NC) and 18 additional co-sponsors. A press conference was held immediately prior to the hearing.
So many on this day were following in the footsteps and walking in the legacy of our ancestors who made the same journey for more than 100 years. Thank you to everybody who came out to support Tribal Chairman Lowery and our delegation during the Legislative Hearing and press conference.
Thank you for your prayers, support! We are Proud to be Lumbee Indians!
