Bobbie Jacobs-Ghaffar files for Tribal Chairman

Bobbie Jacobs-Ghaffar filed on Friday to run for the Tribal Chairman’s seat during the November tribal elections.

Also on Friday, Councilwoman Anita Hammonds Blanks filed to keep her seat on the Tribal Council. Blanks represents District 9 which includes Saddletree.

Jacobs-Ghaffar lives in Lumberton. She is the fifth person to file for the chairman’s seat. The others are current Tribal Chairman Paul Brooks, Lynn Jacobs, Harvey Godwin Jr. and Terry Collins.

In District 9, Elaine McNeill Collins is challenging Blanks.

The filing period ends on September 18.

The tribal elections are set for November 17.

The other council seats up for election are Districts 1, 4, 7, 10 and 14. The filing fee for the chairman seat is $500. The fee for a council seat is $250.
