On December 22, 2021, the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina will host a Drive-thru event to show our appreciation to Chairman Godwin for his dedication to the Lumbee People over the last 6 years. The event is 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at the Lumbee Tribe Cultural Center on Terry Sanford Drive in Maxton.

  • NCDHHS Chief Health Equity and Policy Officers Visit Lumbee Tribe Vaccination Site

    NC Department of Health and Human Services Chief Health Equity Officer Victor Armstrong and Chief Health Policy Officer Charlene Wong, M.D., MSHP, visited the Lumbee Tribe Boys and Girls Club Walk-in Family Vaccination Site for COVID-19 vaccines Friday afternoon. This visit is part of a series of visits by N.C. health officials as well as Governor Roy Cooper to COVID-19 Vaccination Sites across the state. The visit comes as health officials encourage COVID-19 vaccines for people ages 5 and older, as well as boosters for those over the age of 16. With colder weather and gatherings during the holiday season, vaccines are a safe and effective way to protect against severe illness, hospitalization and death. Dr. Wong said the team is really promoting families to get vaccinated as quickly as possible in N.C. to allow communities to get this pandemic behind them. She said it is wonderful to see family vaccination sites encourage families to get vaccinated together, while also receiving accurate and up to date information. FREE COVID-19 Vaccinations are available at the Lumbee Tribe Boys & Girls Club. The Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine is available for children ages 5-11, There are also vaccinations for adults as well as Vaccine boosters.     ***** Please Share with the Elders in your community******** The Lumbee Tribe LIHEAP Energy Assistance Program is extended through January. Applications will be accepted through Friday, January 28, 2022. Due to the high volume and need for energy assistance, the Lumbee Tribe is going to extend the application process. Also because of the holidays we want to make sure we are able to reach everyone. Anyone with an incomplete application, please submit all applications by January 28th. The ( LIHWAP) Low Income Household Water Assistance Program is on-going. You may complete an application at anytime. The Low Income Household Water Assistance Program (LIHWAP) will provide water assistance throughout the tribal territory. LIHWAP shall address restoration of services to households without current water services, immediate payment of existing arrearages to prevent disconnection of drinking water or wastewater, establishing household water services, or provide a monthly benefit payment.   • Lumbee Tribal Chairman Godwin and Chairman-Elect Lowery Travel to Washington

    Lumbee Tribal Chairman Godwin and Chairman-Elect Lowery Travel to Washington in Historic Trip as part of Transition Process On Wednesday, Lumbee Tribal Chairman Harvey Godwin, Jr. and Chairman-Elect John Lowery traveled to Washington, DC to meet with Lawmakers and the Lumbee Tribal lobbyists Dentons and Powers. The trip is part of a first of its kind transitional strategy between the Lumbee Chairman and the Chair-Elect. In Washington, Godwin, Lowery and Lumbee Legal & Compliance Officer Danielle McLean, met with the N.C. Delegation, Committee Members, the Senate Committee of Indian Affairs and the Subcommittee of Indigenous Affairs. Chairman Harvey Godwin, Jr. said the trip is a continuation of meetings, which began two weeks ago to begin the transition of power in the executive branch of the Lumbee Tribal Government. “Part of my exit strategy is to have a true transition from the Godwin to the Lowery Administration, which would involve and explain all of our Lumbee Services as well as give him an opportunity to meet the staff and leadership who administer these services,” said Godwin. During the recent meetings, Lowery was presented a full report about each Lumbee Tribe Department from the leaders who oversee the programs. “The Chair-elect also had a chance to see what our staff has done over the past 6 years and on-going projects which are continuing into the Lowery Administration,” said Godwin. Chairman-Elect John Lowery will be sworn-in as the new Lumbee Tribal Leader on Thursday, January 6, 2022. Lowery said the trip offered an opportunity to discuss Full Federal Recognition, housing issues, FEMA as well as other issues that affect the tribe. “I appreciate the opportunity to travel to Washington with Chairman Godwin to visit with lawmakers, who are vitally important to the continued work that we have with the Lumbee Tribe of N.C.,” said Lowery. “I look forward to working with our friends in Congress as we continue to strengthen our government to government relationship with the United States.” Chairman Godwin said he is appreciative to Chairman-Elect Lowery for being open to a collaboration for the transition on behalf of the Lumbee People. “The transition is important to the continuity of Lumbee Programs and services,” said Godwin.

  • Another Successful Night of Lumbee Tribe Winter Solstice (A Season of Blessings)

    Our Lumbee Tribe Winter Solstice (A Season of Blessings) light event opens for a second night at 5:30 pm this afternoon at the Lumbee Tribe Cultural Center on Terry Sanford Drive in Maxton. The Drive-thru (3) night event is free to the public. We are so excited to bring holiday joy to our community. But it truly is so special when you see our elders, and some have never been to a light show and they loved it. The first night was very special. The Lumbee Winter Solstice event will be open to the public on Saturday and Sunday from 5:30 to 8:30 PM. This weekend will be only lights. Visitors are required to remain in their vehicle. Drivers may listen to holiday music once they arrive at the Lumbee Tribe Cultural Center by tuning your car radio to Channel 104.9 radio. The event is paid for with NAHASDA Cares Act Funding and BCBSNC Blue Cross Blue Shield of N.C.
