Yesterday, Chairman Lowery met with Senator’s Thom Tillis and Ted Budd to discuss the legislative priorities of the Lumbee Tribe in the new congressional session. #lumbeeleadership

Congratulations to Lumbee Tribal Member Bobby Clark and his family, of the Fairmont community, on their new home from the Lumbee Tribe. The Clark family received the home following assistance from our Lumbee Tribe Rehab Department. His home is part of the Mobile home replacement program, which assist families to receive another home, if their mobile home is dilapidated beyond repair. Homes in this program normally have a smaller monthly payment for the recipients. The Lumbee Tribe of N.C. will be hosting Cultural Workshops every Monday of each month beginning February 20, 2023. This workshop is open to all ages and is free. Each month will focus on a new topic / skill. February's Cultural Workshop will highlight basketry/basket weaving & POWWOW Dancing/Drumming. Those interested in basketry, must register by February 17, 2023 at https://www.lumbeetribe.com/culturalworkshop (There is a max of 30 people per class for Basketry) The first workshop will be on February 20, 2023 at Southern Spirit Boys & Girls. Each workshop will be from 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm.

Lumbee Tribal Chairman John L. Lowery is busy working on behalf of the Lumbee People as he meets with lawmakers for a second day on Capitol Hill. This follows his visit last night to the State of the Union Address as the official guest for Congressman David Rouzer, U.S. Representative for the 7th District of North Carolina. Chairman Lowery had an opportunity to interact with members of congress and hear President Biden’s address first hand. He was also interviewed with Congressman Rouzer on Spectrum News ahead of the address to the nation. “I was honored to be a part of such a historical moment to witness President Biden’s State of the Union Address. I was also glad to be in a position to advocate for our tribe as I met with many members of congress throughout the event. I want to sincerely thank Congressman Rouzer for his invite and strong support of the Lumbee Tribe.”

The Lumbee Tribe of N.C. will hold a "On-Site Surplus Sale" on Thursday, February 23, 2023 from 10:00 am - 2:00 pm at the Housing Materials Warehouse (located behind the Lumbee Tribe Housing Complex) on 164 Clovis Drive, Pembroke, NC. The sale is open to the public. It is First Come, First Served. All sales are final, no returns or refunds Cash or cards will be accepted. Items purchased must be picked up by 4 pm on the day of the sale. The available items include office furniture, two vending machines, telephones and much more. STARTING THIS MONDAY, February 6, 2023, the Lumbee Tribe Enrollment Office will have new hours. The Enrollment Office will be OPEN EVERY MONDAY (excluding holidays) from 8 am til 8 pm and Tuesday - Friday 8 am til 4:30 pm, allowing you additional time to update or complete your tribal enrollment. Applicants or members must be signed in at the Lumbee Tribe Enrollment Desk by 7:30 pm. There will also be an additional Lumbee History Culture class at 6:00 pm (by pre-registration). New enrollments (18 years of age and older) must register for Lumbee History Culture Class. To register, email your name and phone number to enrollment@lumbeetribe.com or call 910.522.5468. We send our deepest respect and condolences to the family of Reverend Harold Hunt. He passed away this week. Reverend Hunt had the vision to establish a Veterans Office within the Lumbee Tribe of N.C., and along with Larry Townsend and Chairman James “Jimmy” Goins, Hunt was instrumental in drafting legislation to begin the Lumbee Tribe Veterans Service Office. The office opened in 2004 with Reverend Hunt as the first director. He was also a key Veteran who helped to start the Lumbee Warriors Association. He served more than 30 years of his life in service to Veterans. Reverend Hunt was a recipient of the Purple Heart, as a result of injuries he received in Vietnam. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family. Rev. Hunt was a member of the Lumbee Tribe of N.C. Harold Hunt, age 73, departed this life January 31, 2023. He was born July 14, 1949 in Red Springs, NC to the late Jannie Jacobs Hunt and Saul Hunt. He is survived by his wife Carol A. Hunt. Together they have 5 children and 11 grandchildren. Siblings Larry Hunt (Carolyn Hunt) of Red Springs, Shelia Brayboy (Gene Brayboy) of Lumberton, Harmon Hunt of Lumberton, Miranda Hammonds (TR Hammonds) of Pembroke, Jeff Hunt of Fayetteville, Ledger Hunt of Red Springs. He was preceded in death by brothers James David Hunt and Herman Hunt and his niece Crystal Hammonds. His favorite things in life were God, family, church, and his community. He loved assisting any fellow veteran and being involved with his Native American culture. He obtained multiple degrees and certifications throughout his life. He was truly a jack of all trades. Rev. Hunt was also a member of NRA (National Rifle Association). He was a true farm boy at heart.
