  • Thank you to Mountaire for their Donation to Expand Lumbee Stickball Activities

    Thank you to Mountaire for their donation to expand Lumbee Stickball Activities. On Monday, JR LaPearl, Mountaire Cares Director and Jarrod Lowery, Mountaire Cares Manager, presented the Lumbee Tribe of N.C. with a $15,000 check to create a Stickball playing field and for other needs to expand Lumbee Stickball activities. Mountaire Cares is the outreach division of Mountaire Farms. Stickball, also known as “little brother of war,” was historically played to settle conflicts over land and politics between Tribal Nations, mostly in the southeast. Today the game is played in an athletic and social setting and is promoted within the Lumbee Tribe Boys & Girls clubs. Mountaire Farms is the 4th largest poultry processor in the nation. The company has facilities throughout the Lumbee Tribal Territories, including the world’s largest chicken processing facility.

  • Office of Tribal Enrollment and Records Extends Hours--6/29 & 6/30

    Just in time for Lumbee Homecoming and as a vision for Tribal Chairman John L. Lowery, the Lumbee Tribe Office of Tribal Enrollment and Records will extend the office hours on Wednesday June 29th and Thursday June 30th. The hours will be from 8:00 am until 7:00 pm. Thereby giving you an additional opportunity to update your cards and apply for tribal enrollment after hours. There will also be two additional Lumbee History Culture Classes offered at 5:00 pm on both days for applicants for new enrollment only. To register for the class, please call 910.522.5468 or email enrollment@lumbeetribe.com with your name, phone number, and the time and date in which you wish to register. Also, please bring your county issued certified birth certificates that records parents’ names and legal photo ID. If you have minor children that you wish to enroll, please bring their county issued certified birth certificates as well. Happy Lumbee Homecoming!

  • 2022 LTH Annual Shareholders Meeting--7/1 @ 10 am

    In accordance with the Bylaws of Lumbee Tribe Holdings, Inc. (LTH), this is NOTICE of the Annual Meeting of Shareholders. The "Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina" is the sole owner of all 100 shares of LTH. The meeting will be held on July 1, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. The Annual Meeting location has been scheduled to occur in the Boys & Girls Club facility behind the Tribal Building, 6984 NC Hwy 711, Pembroke, NC 28372, and it will be conducted under safety guidelines/protocols as may be established and enforced by the Tribal Administration. A light lunch will be provided at the conclusion of the Annual Meeting. The event will be livestreamed for the tribal membership and will be recorded for future review.   • Lumbee Tribe Boys and Girls Club Summer Camp Complete Baskets!

    Congratulations to our first group of students from our Lumbee Tribe Boys and Girls Club Summer Camp to complete their gathering baskets. Lumbee Master Basket Weaver Cindy Locklear has worked with the students over the past week on the baskets. This basket activity is a collaboration with the N.C. Museum of Art in Raleigh with Angela Lombardy. It’s called the NCMA Artist Innovation Mentorship Summer Program (AIM). This is one of the first groups of campers to participate in the seven week Basketry making program. It will continue through August. The AIM program is about introducing fun and innovative ways that you can make art while learning how to solve problems like an artist! These students are also creating pottery, artwork while also learning through STEM activities.

  • Chairman Lowery recently visited Raleigh to meet with NC's Lawmakers and Administration Officals

    Lumbee Tribal Chairman Lowery recently visited Raleigh to meet with North Carolina Lawmakers and Administration officials. House Speaker Tim Moore recognized Chairman Lowery during the North Carolina House's Annual meeting in the historic Capitol Building. Later in the day, Senate Leader Phil Burger and Senator Danny Britt also recognized Chairman Lowery on the floor of the North Carolina Senate. Chairman Lowery met with Department of Administration Secretary Pamela Cashwell (Lumbee/Coharie) to discuss numerous items and how they relate to the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina. Chairman Lowery said, "We had very productive meetings with elected and appointed officials during our time in Raleigh. Our relationships and continued networking will lead to a number of successes for the Lumbee people in the future."

  • Ricky Harris Selected as the New Lumbee Tribe Tribal Administrator

    Pembroke, NC - (June 21, 2022) - The Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina has a new Tribal Administrator. During a special called meeting on Tuesday evening, the Tribal Council voted to approve Ricky Harris as the new Tribal Administrator. Harris is already well known across the region, as he served as the former county manager for Robeson County for eight years. Harris is from the Prospect Community. Tammy Maynor served as the Interim-Tribal Administrator for two years. Maynor also serves as the Director of Governmental Affairs for the Lumbee Tribe Of North Carolina. The Tribal Administrator is nominated by the Lumbee Tribal Chairman and approved by the Tribal Council. Chairman John Lowery said the selection of a Tribal Administrator of this caliber with Harris’ experience is a win-win for the Lumbee people. “Ricky Harris has a proven track record as a leader and he brought Robeson County forward during his time as county manager,” said Lowery. “Harris has a wealth of public administration knowledge and understands day to day operations of a governmental entity. I am honored to have his guidance and leadership during my term as Tribal Chairman.” Ricky Harris has worked with the Lumbee Tribe in recent months as a tribal consultant. Harris said he is most excited about this opportunity to be able to work with the Lumbee People and advance the mission of improving services. “Over the past few months, it has been amazing to see the Lumbee staff at work,” said Harris. “This team provides services at a level like no other organization in Robeson County and I am honored to work with them for the continued advancement of my people.” Harris will begin work immediately as the new Tribal Administrator.

  • District 7 Community Meeting Scheduled for June 27

    A District 7 Community Meeting is scheduled for Monday, June 27, 2022 at 6:00 pm. The meeting is hosted by Council members Rudy T. Locklear, Nanci Locklear and Yvonne Dial. The meeting will be at Pembroke Rescue Squad at 564 Candy Park Road in Pembroke. Dinner will be served.
