Applications are now available for the Senior Ms. Lumbee Pageant. The pageant will be held on Friday, June 20, 2025 at 6:30 pm at Givens Performing Arts Center on the campus of UNC Pembroke. Interested applicants may pick up applications at the front desk at the Lumbee Tribe Housing Complex on Highway 711, the Vocational Rehab Department behind the Housing Complex or online at https://www.lumbeetribe.com/_files/ugd/6ca8af_05149a0763cf4a0486684d8588e0d9b4.pdf The deadline to apply is April 25, 2025.

NEW SAVE THE DATE The Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina’s “Dance of the Harvest Moon” Powwow will be held on September 26-28, 2025. I want to thank Metrolina Native American Association and the Meherrin Indian Nation for the continued dialogue over the last few months as we all worked on our powwow dates for the fall. Students will be able to interact with University and College expert speakers. Among the schools invited are UNC Pembroke, UNC Chapel Hill, Methodist University, Campbell University, East Carolina University, NC State, Robeson Community College, and Duke University. Come meet and hear what they have to offer. Experts from College Admission, and Financial Aid Offices will also share details that you need to know when applying to college. Registration is required. We look forward to seeing you at the next Monday evening, February 24, 2025, Cultural Class. We hope you will sign up for one (1) of the four (4) different beading workshops over the next three (3) months. Registration is required to participate in the beading workshop. You may NOW sign up for one of the beading workshops on our website WWW.LUMBEETRIBE.COM . All beading workshops are first come, first serve. Each beading workshop is limited to 25 people. We will continue to have other cultural activities for those NOT participating in the beading workshop. Culture class is 6:30 pm to 8 pm at the Lumbee Lodge Community Building located at 2715 Philadelphus Rd, Pembroke, NC.

Thank you to the Foundation of Health Leadership & Innovation’s (FHLI) Board for the opportunity for our Lumbee Administration team and Health and Human Services Director Dr. Cherry Beasley to participate in the 2025 Legislative Breakfast as NC lawmakers discuss the health of NC citizens. The event in Raleigh brought public health advocates, elected officials, and key health leaders from across North Carolina to the table with FHLI to envision forward-thinking public health legislation.

Lumbee Tribal Chairman Lowery spends the week in Washington, DC as consultation begins to fulfill President Trump's Memorandum requirement. This week, Chairman John L. Lowery visited with officials from the White House, the Department of Interior (DOI) as well as numerous lawmakers in Washington, DC as part of the Lumbee Tribe's ongoing efforts toward full federal recognition. The meeting with DOI highlighted the Interior's commitment to follow the recent Presidential Memo. The visits on Capitol Hill, which included Senators Tillis and Budd and other lawmakers from across the country, show the deep bi-partisan support for the Lumbee Fairness Act.
