- Development Plans for Dreamcatcher Union Chapel
Development is Underway Across the Lumbee Tribal Nation. The Lumbee Tribe of N.C. has many single-family construction projects underway throughout our service areas of Robeson, Scotland, Hoke and Cumberland Counties. We are proud to announce several housing developments as well. In recent years the demand for affordable rental housing has grown and has lead to the development of Dreamcatcher Union Chapel which is designed to create safe and affordable housing for tribal members. We will continue to look at other projects that will change the face of our Tribal Community, while creating affordable housing and growth opportunities for our Lumbee Tribal Members.
- Lumbee Cultural Class Welcomes Lost Colony Associate Producer and Cast Members
Thank you to Lance Culpepper, Lost Colony Associate Producer, several of the Lumbee cast members of the 84th Season of the Outdoor Drama and Lumbee models who were featured in the drama marketing for visiting the Lumbee Culture Class tonight. The class included an informational season to discuss auditions and casting opportunities for the Lost Colony Season 2022.
- Onsite COVID-19 Vaccinations--Wednesday - Friday 3:30 pm to 6:30 pm
The schedule has changed for our onsite COVID-19 Vaccinations. The Vaccinations are now available Wednesday through Saturday and will no longer be available on Tuesday. The Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine is available for children ages 5-11 at the Lumbee Tribe Boys & Girls Club. The address is 120 Youth Drive, Pembroke, NC 28372. Each week, the vaccinations are available Wednesday through Friday: 3:30 pm - 6:30 pm and Saturday from 9am - 12pm. Vaccine boosters are also available. - TODAY--Lumbee Culture Class and A Lost Colony Outdoor Drama Informational Session
On Tuesday, the Lumbee Culture Class will also include an informational session with a Lost Colony Outdoor Drama Associate Producer to discuss auditions and collaboration for the Lost Colony Season 2022. The Lumbee Tribe Culture Class is held at the Lumbee Tribe Cultural Center on Terry Sanford Drive in Maxton, NC. The class begins at 6 pm.

The 26th Annual American Indian Heritage Celebration will be an online experience on Saturday, November 20, 2021, with a special online experience for students and educators on Friday, November 19. - “Strong Roots in Changing Times”--50th Anniversary of the Creation of the North Carolina Commission
The theme for this year’s American Indian Heritage Month in N.C. is, “Strong Roots in Changing Times,” reflecting the resilience of American Indians throughout the pandemic and the continued preservation of their rich culture and traditions. United Tribes of N.C. and the N.C. Commission of Indian Affairs have released the November 2021 Indian Heritage Month Artwork, which was created by Lumbee Artist, Karl Anthony Hunt. Congratulations to the North Carolina Commission of Indian Affairs. This year marks another milestone as the department celebrates the 50th anniversary of the creation of the North Carolina Commission of Indian Affairs. The departments work to support North Carolina Tribe’s is crucial. Thank you Greg Richardson! North Carolina is home to eight state recognized tribes including the Coharie, Eastern Band of Cherokee, Haliwa-Saponi, Lumbee, Meherrin, Occaneechi Band of the Saponi Nation, Sappony and Waccamaw-Siouan. The state also has four urban Indian associations including the Cumberland County Association for Indian People, Guilford Native American Association, Metrolina Native American Association and the Triangle Native American Association. According to the 2020 U.S. Census Bureau, more than 130,000 American Indians reside in North Carolina, making our state the second largest American Indian population east of the Mississippi River and the seventh largest American Indian population in the nation. To celebrate American Indian Heritage Month, the Commission is again partnering with the NC Museum of History, North Carolina’s American Indian tribes and urban Indian organization to coordinate a weekend of special events. The 26th annual celebration will be virtual and is free and open to the public. This year, students and teachers can view live dancing and music during the celebration’s Education Day on November 19 from 9:30 am – 3:30pm. The main celebration will be held Saturday, November 20 from 11 am – 4pm and will feature live panel discussions and presentations.

The Memorial Ceremony and Bike Ride is getting ready to begin. The event is at LRDA and will end at the Lumbee Tribe Cultural Center. If you had a loved one pass due to a COVID-19 diagnosis, this Memorial Ceremony honors them. Our biker community will join in a ride across the county after the ceremony.

Thank you to everyone who participated in the Memorial Ceremony and Bike Ride today. The event began with free activities and information at LRDA and the Bike Ride ended at the Lumbee Tribe Cultural Center. The ceremony honored loved ones who passed due to a COVID-19 diagnosis. Thank you to all of the community partners who made it a great success.

SEE YOU AT THE AMERICAN INDIAN HERITAGE DAY AT UNCP FOOTBALL GAME, Presented by the Town of Pembroke! Come cheer on your UNC Pembroke Braves Football team this Saturday, November 6 at Noon, as they battle #13 Notre Dame for a spot at the top of the conference on American Indian Heritage Day presented by the Town of Pembroke. Grandstand Tickets are still available and can be purchased at UNCPBraves.com/Tickets. General Admission Tickets will be available at the gate for $5.00 when you show your Tribal ID card. Come enjoy a day of American Indian Culture with performances from Miss Indian North Carolina, Kaitlyn Deal, War Paint, and more. Limited artisan vendors will also be present at the game for fans to interact with and enjoy. Also returning this year are the replica American Indian Heritage Day Jersey t-shirts. The shirts will ONLY be available at the game for $25. We can't wait to see you at Grace P. Johnson Stadium when the gates open at 10:30 a.m. for American Indian Heritage Day! Go Braves!
