    Today, Lumbee Tribal Chairman John Lowery visited with our friends at the Catawba Nation. He spent time with Catawba’s Assistant Chief Jason Harris. With this visit, the Lumbee and the Catawba continue to strengthen their Nation to Nation relationship.

  • Lumbee Tribal Chairman Lowery Amends Asset Requirements

    Lumbee Tribal Chairman John Lowery has amended the Lumbee Tribal Housing Policy. Effective February 2, 2022, there is no longer an asset limitation for Tribal members applying for the Home Rehabilitation Program. HUD income limitations will still apply, but the value of Tribal Members assets will no longer be considered when determining eligibility for the Home Rehabilitation Program. Tribal members who have questions about their eligibility should contact the Lumbee Tribal Housing Department at (910) 522.5161 or ndial@lumbeetribe.com

  • Enrollment Services Welcomes Home Family From Florida

    It is winter and groundhog day, but our Lumbee Enrollment Office is still busy. Today we welcomed home Cody Courbier, who stopped by to update his enrollment and enroll his two young daughters. Courbier’s family is from the Union Chapel community. He also took an opportunity to meet Chairman Lowery.

  • Condolences to the family of Mr. Severeo Kerns.

    The Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina extends our thoughts and condolences to the family of Mr. Severeo Kerns. Mr. Severeo passed on January 28, 2022. He will be remembered as an advocate for children in our community. Mr. Severeo was employed at LRDA, branch manager at Lumbee Bank, loan officer at Southern National Bank, insurance agent at Farm Bureau, and an RCC Instructor. He also served as a board member with the Public Schools of Robeson County for 12 years. Mr. Severeo attended Faith of Calvary Baptist Church where he was the chairman deacon, adult Sunday school teacher, Pulpit Committee chairman, church treasurer, Finance Committee member, and Building Committee member. He received his Master of Christian Counseling from Anderson Theological Seminary. His passion was teaching others about our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and one of his favorite sayings was, "Read, Study, Meditate, and Apply to Show Yourself Approved". Mr. Severeo was a devoted son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, mentor and friend. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Riley Westley Kerns and Lizzy Jane Porter, and Dewey and Coeather McNeill; and his beloved daughter, Constance Sierra Kerns. He leaves to cherish his memories his parents, Rev. Chalmers and Mrs. Shirley Kerns; his wife of 38 years, Connie Kerns; a son, Johnathan Kerns; seven grandchildren, Caleb Kerns, Braylon Hamilton, Aleah Kerns, Elijah Kerns, Brycelon Kerns, Brooklyn Kerns, and Kamryn Kerns; a brother, Tonya Kerns; two nieces, Sonia Amaral, and LaKisha Kerns; a nephew, Riley Odell Kerns; a special friend, Jerry Robin Finn; and a host of relatives and friends.

    The Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina extends our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Lumbee Tribal Councilman Alvin Mercer. Councilman Mercer’s passing leaves a void within our Tribe and his presence will be greatly missed. Mr. Mercer represented Tribal Council District 7. Lumbee Tribal Chairman John Lowery has issued an executive order to lower all flags at all Lumbee Tribal Facilities to half-staff in honor of Mr. Mercer. We will share additional information about the arrangements in the coming days.

  • LIHEAP Energy Assistance Program Ends Friday, January 28, 2022!

    The LIHEAP Energy Assistance program ends Friday. Please be patient as we work through thousands of applications. We have received a record numbers of applications. We are transitioning to a new software system that will make the application process easier in the future. Unfortunately, these LIHEAP applications have to be entered into a new software system. Unlike other online programs this takes time. But the future application process will be easier for applicants. As the program closes tomorrow, it will give the staff the opportunity to begin processing payments for utilities of approved applicants. Please be patient as each application is fulfilled. Applicants will soon start to see a credit on your account. We expect all applications to be processed by the end of February.
