Thank you to the staff and administration of the Veterans Administration VA Hospital in Fayetteville for welcoming our Lumbee Tribe Culture team to share about the culture and traditions of the Lumbee Tribe and Native People during their Indian Heritage Celebration. The event showcased Lumbee History, Native dancing and songs, as well as demonstrations and stories about Native weaponry.

The theme is "Falling Back to Healthy Living by Honoring Our Ancestors." The services at the event will include a Blood Drive Blood pressure Checks Glucose Screening Mental Health Services Sickle Cell Testing Cancer Screenings The event is from 10 am till 2 pm and is sponsored by WellCare, UNC Pembroke and the Lumbee Tribe of N.C. The Lumbee Tribe Cultural Center is located on 824 Terry Sanford Dr. in Maxton, NC 28364.

American Indian Heritage Month has been a busy one for the Lumbee Tribe and our Culture team as we celebrate American Indian Culture! The staff at Scotland Regional Hospice welcomed our Lumbee Tribe Culture team with open arms to participate in their American Indian Heritage Program. It was a great day to honor the Hospice staff for what they do, as well as share the story and tradition of the Native flute, demonstrate blowgun weaponry, showcase the Lumbee Pinecone Patchwork dress and women's Southern Traditional Dance Style. Thank you, Scotland Regional Hospice, for the opportunity!

Celebrating our past, hand in hand with our future! American Indian Heritage Month has kicked off with great flair as programs across the nation showcase Native History and Culture. Almost 3,000 students learned about our Lumbee History, culture and traditions and even weaponry at GPAC at our youth event this week on the campus of UNC Pembroke. Thank you to our Lumbee Culture Team, all of our dancers, singers the Lumbee Ambassadors, Senior Ms. Lumbee Carolyn Emanuel and Drowning Creek for sharing about Native culture at the annual Lumbee American Indian Culture Day event. The students also had an opportunity to see traditional dancing, learn about Eastern Woodland tribal ways, language and much more. The two performances welcomed students from Kindergarten through 8th grade students. Thank you to everyone who worked to make this event a great success.

It was a blessing this week to see so many of our farm neighbors, community members and friends, but especially young people attend the 9th Annual American Indian Heritage Month Ag Celebration. This annual event celebrates Native Culture and stresses the importance of agriculture and the important roles of Native farmers throughout Robeson County. Ronald Hammonds, Lumbee farmer from the Saddletree Community, received an appreciation award for his contributions to local agriculture. The event also honored Mrs. Sybil Bullard in remembrance of her late husband and farmer Mr. Danny Bullard. High School FFA members attended from Purnell Swett High, Lumberton High and St. Pauls High Schools. Thank you to these young people for taking time to honor come out to meet and honor our farmers and assist in serving lunch. Members from USDA included Director Reginald Speights, USDA Tribal Liaison Pamela Sunshine Richardson. Also in attendance was members from USDA Rural Development, NRCS, Wildlife Conservation, Soil and Water Conservation.

Thank you to Campbell Soup of Maxton for welcoming the Lumbee Tribe of N.C. and our Culture Team for their Annual American Indian Heritage Smudging Ceremony. Campbell Soup and many of its employees participated in a sacred smudging ceremony as well as a beautiful honor song to celebrate and honor the occasion. Campbell Soup, located within our Lumbee Tribal Territory, employs a number of tribal citizens. The company is also a great community partner by going above and beyond to support outreach initiatives.
