The UNC-Pembroke Quad was full of students, vendors, and community members during the celebration. Lumbee Tribal Chairman Harvey Godwin Jr. was a guest speaker for the event, along with Channing Jones, Vice President of Workforce Development at Robeson Community College, and Faline Dial, President of Pembroke’s Chamber of Commerce. Chairman Harvey Godwin Jr. expressed the importance of having and maintaining partnerships with communal entities and working together to provide a stronger unification for community members. Recently, the Lumbee Tribe has partnered with UNC-Pembroke’s Cross Country team to build a track at Lumbee Tribe Cultural Center. We have also partnered with Robeson Community College, Public Schools of Robeson County, and UNC-Pembroke to initiate a higher learning initiative through a grant titled Project ACCESS.     The END Empowerment walk has been POSTPONED to next Thursday, October 13th at 6:30 p.m. at the Pembroke Recreational Park.

    The Lumbee Tribe’s tribal seal (the “Tribal Seal”) is a trademark owned and safeguarded by the Lumbee Tribe. It is important that we maintain high and uniform standards with respect to our trademark, since the public closely associates the Tribal Seal with the Lumbee Tribe. Accordingly, any commercial use of the Tribal Seal requires advanced permission from the Lumbee Tribe via a trademark license agreement. To obtain our permission, please email us at trademarks@lumbeetribe.com and describe your intended use. We will evaluate your proposal and reach out to you if we wish to negotiate a formal agreement authorizing your use. If you come across a third party using the Tribal Seal, and you question whether that use has been approved by the Lumbee Tribe, please email us at trademarks@lumbeetribe.com and identify the potentially unauthorized usage.   • Lumbee Tribe hosts Robeson Technical Works Meeting

    Robeson Technical Works held their meeting at the Lumbee Tribe on Thursday, September 22nd. Topics of discussion included Project ACCESS, Robeson County’s unemployment rate, and incentives for students to achieve high school graduation and higher education. Robeson Technical Works represents a partnership that is between local business entrepreneurs, industrial employers, Southeastern Human Resources Association, educators and other various group representatives. Tribal Chairman Harvey Godwin Jr. expressed the need for community partners in getting students and community more involved in higher education and employment opportunities. In moving forward with these issues, the Lumbee Tribe hopes to break down some of these barriers by implementing the program Project ACCESS. Project ACCESS is a program that has been initiated by the Lumbee Tribe. We have partnered with the University of North Carolina at Pembroke, Robeson Community College and the Public Schools of Robeson County in promoting higher education among Robeson County youth.   • Project ACCESS Community Camp

    On Thursday evening, the University of North Carolina at Pembroke, Robeson Community College, and the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina partnered to kick off the first Community Camp for Project ACCESS. In attendance were students, educators, tribal staff, and community members. The purpose of the Community Camps is to gain feedback from the community about improving access to higher education and career preparedness, as well as address these topics through presentations and talking circles. The next community camp will be held Thursday, October 13th, at 6 p.m. at Two Streams Boys and Girls Club. Dinner will be served.
