Great story! "WELL DONE" to Dr. Ashley Minner Jones as she represents all Native Peoples' well, but especially her Lumbee Family as a guest contributor on CBS Saturday morning. The segment focused on Keep America Beautiful donating the rights of a well known 1970's environmental PSA to the National Congress of American Indians. Ashley is a community-based visual artist and Assistant Curator for History and Culture at the Smithsonian's National Museum of the American Indian in D.C. Congratulations to our very own Kathy Locklear for making the cover of the Native Learning Center Anniversary Poster. She recently participated in a training at Native Learning Center in Florida. The center assist American Indian Tribes with housing training. The center is celebrating its 15 year anniversary. Locklear has also conducted training at the center and shared about the Lumbee Tribe Housing Program. Kathy Locklear is the Lumbee Tribe's Financial Education/Housing Manager. This week (March 5th - 11th, 2023) kicks off Severe Weather Preparedness Week For North Carolina. The week gives us a wonderful opportunity to talk about severe weather safety with our families and community. Monday looks at severe thunderstorms and tornadoes. We have already experienced high winds in the past few days and our neighbors in neighboring states have suffered loss of life and damages due to storms last week. Please take time to talk with your children and your family members about what your plan will be if there is a need to take shelter during a severe storm. On Wednesday, March 8th at 9:30 AM, the National Weather Service in cooperation with local broadcasters will conduct a statewide tornado drill. The National Weather Service asks emergency management, public safety officials, local media and Weather-Ready Nation Ambassadors to help join forces in improving the nation's readiness, responsiveness, and overall resilience against severe weather during the upcoming season.

This weekend, people across our community paid tribute and celebrated the life of Timothy (Timmy) Clark. Timmy was the Athletic Program Supervisor for the Lumberton Recreation Department. He was a coach of various sports and touched the lives of many children throughout the county and the region. He was an enrolled member of the Lumbee Tribe of N.C. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and the community.

- Lumbee Tribe Cheers on Kelvin Sampson at ECU Game with Houston
More than 100 Lumbee Tribal Members, friends and kinship of Kelvin Sampson turned out from across the state on Saturday to support Kelvin as his Houston Cougars beat the ECU Pirates. Kelvin Sampson is a member of the Lumbee Tribe of N.C. As always, he not only made his family proud as he coached the winning team, but took the time after the game to visit with everyone who came out to cheer him on.
