Thank you to everyone that attended the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina’s Community Meeting hosted by Lumbee Tribal Chairman John L. Lowery and Triangle Native American Society at the Junior League Community Center. The Lumbee Tribe's Administration and Tribal Chairman provided key information regarding the Cultural Center, program process improvements, the creation of the Agriculture & Natural Resources and Health & Human Services Departments, COVID Funds, as well as services and programs that are available to out-of-service area tribal members. Chairman Lowery illustrated the Lumbee Tribe’s path moving forward by highlighting our internal and external growth. He discussed the Cultural Center’s renovations, which included steps and a shelter that were added to the pool, the new Marketplace building located at the powwow grounds, as well as the updated playground. The Agriculture & Natural Resources (ANR) Department is a relatively new department that focuses on our farmers and the crops. The Health & Human Services Department assists those in need of heating and cooling assistance, peer support, medicated assisted treatment, as well as those that have experienced domestic violence. The Chairman also highlighted the current and future housing developments located throughout our tribal territory. Tribal members living outside the service area(s) are able to apply for youth scholarships, student housing vouchers, down payment assistance, COVID Pandemic relief, as well as Veteran Services. The Lumbee Tribe Housing Complex and all Lumbee Tribal Offices will be closed Monday, January 15, 2024 in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Our offices will resume normal operations on Tuesday, January 16, 2024.

The Boys & Girls Club is located behind the Lumbee Tribe Housing Complex on 120 Youth Drive in Pembroke, NC. The event will also be live-streamed.

Farmers, Ranchers and or farm families, if you are completing the USDA Discrimination Financial Assistance Program (DFAP) application, you may have additional questions or need additional information with page 21 of the application as it relates to Tribal Enrollment documentation. This page has one section that will need additional documentation from our farmers. In addition to a copy of your current enrollment card, an Enrollment Certificate is now available for individuals currently enrolled and applying. To receive this Enrollment Certificate, The Lumbee Tribal Enrollment Office must have the applicant’s name and birthdate to verify Lumbee Enrollment. Also, if you do not have a picture on your card, it is advised that applicants visit the Tribal enrollment Office for an updated photo for this paperwork. You will receive the certificate to include with the packet to submit to USDA. For Immediate Release Duke Energy Partners with the Lumbee Tribe of N.C. for Restoration Project at the Lumbee Tribe Cultural Center Pembroke, NC (December 18, 2023) - On Monday, the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina welcomed a new partnership with Duke Energy with the announcement of a $150,000 grant from the Duke Energy Foundation. The funding will go toward renovations at the Lumbee Tribe Cultural Center. Duke Energy district Manager David McNeill visited the Lumbee Tribe Housing Complex on Monday to meet with Tribal Chairman John L. Lowery, Tribal Administrator Ricky Harris and the grant team who worked on the project. “It is an honor to support the Lumbee Tribe and its Cultural Center in Robeson County,” said David McNeill, district manager, Duke Energy. “This grant will support cultural arts programs and promote community engagement at the center. We are pleased to be a community partner and celebrate the culture, traditions and history of the Lumbee People.” This is the second donation this month to support the Lumbee Tribe Cultural Center. Tribal Chairman Lowery shared that this type of support guarantees the future sustainability of the Cultural Center. “We are thankful for the partnership that we have with Duke Energy and we appreciate the investment they are making into the Lumbee Tribe Culture Center,” said Lowery. Tens of thousands of community members and visitors access the Lumbee Tribe Cultural Center on an annual basis. The 327 - acre Cultural Center property features a playground, the Adolph Dial Amphitheater, the Lumbee Tribe Aquatic Center Pool, the Cultural Center Lake, fishing areas, a tribal community garden and much more for the community. The Lumbee Tribe Winter Solstice was scheduled to start at 5 pm, but there has been a delay with the delivery of the hams, which is the food item that we are giving away tonight. Distribution will begin approximately around 7. We apologize for this delay. Restrooms are available at the administration building, which is Santa’s workshop in the middle of the Cultural center. Again we apologize for this delay.
