Discussions with Congressman Young
A few weeks ago, I sat in Congressman Young’s office as he asked what more could he do to help the Lumbee people? He reminded our group, he had been a constant supporter of our issue. He had voted “yes” in November during the House vote and told us he would follow up with Senator Murkowski. He told a great story about grabbing a Grizzly Bear by the head and his father in law shooting it and returning to the village as the hero (I can assume many had heard that story as well). I also met his wife as she sat quietly in the room during our meeting. He was a champion for the Lumbee people and knew Congress had given us a raw deal in 1956. Thank you Don Young and may God comfort your family and friends during this time.
