Hurricane Florence Update Release 09/10/2018

The Lumbee Tribe is working with the Robeson County Government and Robeson County Emergency Management to prepare our area for Hurricane Florence.

The designated Emergency Shelters for Robeson County are:

Lumberton High School 3901 Fayetteville Road Lumberton, NC 28358

Purnell Swett High School 11244 Deep Branch Road Maxton, NC 28364

In collaboration with the County Government, Town Governments, and Robeson County Emergency Management, the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina will be committing its resources to supporting these designated shelters.

The American Red Cross will be using the Pembroke Boys and Girls Club as its emergency headquarters beginning Wednesday, September 12.

The Tribal Government is working with local utility agencies to provide staging areas and lodging to any out of town utility workers during storm recovery.

Tribal Staff will be performing pre-storm checks on all housing residents and Elder Complexes to ensure that emergency needs are being met including medical needs, water, lanterns, and batteries.

The Lumbee Tribe is committed to working with all agencies and members to ensure the safety of everyone in the path of Hurricane Florence.

The Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina Boys and Girls Clubs will be closed Tuesday, September 11 – Friday, September 14, 2018.

The Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina Housing Complex was will be closed to the public Wednesday, September 12, 2018 – Friday, September 14, 2018. This will allow staff to prepare all tribal properties for the coming storm and perform safety checks on all housing residents before Hurricane Florence makes landfall.
