We Still Believe

The passing of Mrs. Bertha Daniel Richardson

Tribal Chairman Harvey Godwin issued the following statement on the passing of Mrs. Bertha Daniel Richardson, the mother of Gregory A. Richardson, Executive Director of the North Carolina Commission of Indian Affairs. Mrs. Richardson passed away Saturday.

She was a well-respected tribal elder in the Haliwa-Saponi tribal community of Hollister, N.C. She was the wife of the late Chief Jessie W. Richardson of the Haliwa-Saponi Indian Tribe.

“Her wisdom enlightened and touched so many of our hearts and minds,” Godwin said. “It was an honor to have known such a great person with such a strong impact and roots within our tribal communities. May her servitude and stewardship continue to thrive through the lives in which she touched. We pray that our Heavenly Father will grant the needed strength to the families of her loved ones. On behalf of the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina, I offer my sincere condolences.”
