Mrs. Ruth Revels, a true Lumbee warrior

On behalf of the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina, it is with great sadness that we have learned of the passing of a great Lumbee Warrior, Mrs. Ruth Revels. Her death leaves a gaping hole among the ranks of our leaders, but she leaves behind a solid foundation for us to build upon. We had the privilege and opportunity to spend the weekend with Mrs. Ruth Revels at the 41st Annual North Carolina Indian Unity Conference just days ago, where she was in good spirits and continuing her fight for all Native People. Chairman Godwin attended the 29th Annual Carolina Indian Circle Powwow. He spoke with UNC-CH Chancellor Carol L. Folt, Dr. Bruce Cairns (John Stackhouse Distinguished Professor of Surgery at the UNC School of Medicine and Director of the North Carolina Jaycee Burn Center), and Amy Hertel, Director of the UNC American Indian Center at the event.
