Kick-Off Showcase for Community Food Bank
“A town without hunger is a town with heart” (March 22, 2006)

In an effort to lower the level of hunger in the Pembroke area, UNCP and the Lumbee Tribe will host a “Kick Off Talent Showcase” for an annual food drive.  Campaign 460°, a public relations campaign team from UNCP, will host the event on March 29, 2006, from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the University Quad, located between Old Main and the Sampson-Livermore library.

“A town without hunger is a town with heart” is the campaign slogan with the admission to the showcase being two non-perishable items per guest going to the Boys & Girls Club of the Lumbee Tribe to create a food bank center to lower hunger levels in the Pembroke area.  The club inspires and enables all youth through cultural enlightenment, to realize their full potential regardless of circumstances and to become caring, responsible adults.

“The Lumbee Tribe, through our Boys & Girls Club, welcome this opportunity to partnership with the University to stamp out hunger in our community while helping and teaching our youth about community responsibility and volunteerism.” states Tribal Chairman, Jimmy Goins.

The showcase will feature talents such as singers, a tap dancer, a pianist and tribal dancers.  Further information can be obtained by contacting Daniel Henry at ddh003@uncp.edu or by contacting the Boys & Girls Club of the Lumbee Tribe at 910-522-9005.
