The Election Board of the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina has declared James E. “Jimmy” Goins winner of the Tribal Chairman race. The election board met on Monday evening and declared Jimmy Goins winner based on the candidate Delton Oxedine’s official withdraw received by board chairman Oceanus Lowry.
The Lumbee election board also declared winners in tribal districts 5, 7 and 14 due to no opposition. Kernice L. Locklear was declared the winner in district 5, Ray Littleturtle for district 7, and Welford Clark for district 14.
“The election board felt this action was appropriate at this time, there being no provision in the Lumbee Constitution accommodating write-in candidates, and the filing period ended September 18. The board certified these candidates as uncontested winners” said Lowry. Lowry is also asking that volunteer poll workers contact the board immediately for certification. “We need volunteer poll workers to assist in this election on November 14.”
Further information can be obtained by contacting Oceanus Lowry at 910-734-0047.
