Home Ownership Program
The Home Ownership Program provides safe, affordable housing for low-to-moderate income applicant(s) unable to obtain financing with a conventional lender. The Home Ownership Program operates on a first-come, first-serve basis and requires a waiting list. Following is a list of requirements that apply for home ownership eligibility. Contact numbers are provided for further information. Applicant must be:
tribally enrolled with the Lumbee Tribe;
at least 18 years of age;
a first time home buyer and
have approved criminal records for the entire household.
Upon being approved and selected for the program, an assigned housing counsellor will serve as a liaison for applicant(s) throughout the construction phase and closing of the home. Home-buyer education will be provided to the applicant(s). An orientation will be scheduled, with focus upon housing plans, budgeting, and general maintenance / upkeep of the home.
Homeownership applicant(s) are not eligible for both homeownership and down-payment assistance. Applicants whom are ineligible for homeownership or down-payment assistance are encouraged to apply for the 184 loan.
Documents required to apply for homeownership are:
- Social Security Cards for all household members;
- Birth Certificates for all household members;
- Tribal enrollment card for head of household;
- Picture Identification for head of household;
- Proof of income for all household members and
- Criminal record check for all household members age 16 years and older will be done in office.
