Lumbees excited about Bill Clinton campaign visit

Thursday, April 3, 2008

Members of the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina are excited that former president Bill Clinton will be coming to town on Friday to campaign for his wife, Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-New York). Clinton will start his day at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke. The university was created by the state in 1887 as an educational institution for Indians in Robeson County, where the tribe is based. Peter Wish, a chemistry and physics professor at UNCP, said the visit shows Sen. Clinton is reaching out to Lumbee voters. She supports a bill to recognize the tribe.
