UNCP’s Child Welfare Education Collaborative begins scholarship program

A new scholarship program aimed at attracting and training child welfare social workers will have a celebration program on January 16 at The University of North Carolina at Pembroke.

Authorized by the North Carolina General Assembly, UNCP will offer five $8,000 annual scholarship to students willing to go to work in Child Protective Service Programs.The program will launch with an event on Friday, January 16 from 2 – 4:30 p.m. in UNCP’s James B. Chavis University Center Annex. State Sen. William Purcell, a retired pediatrician and child welfare advocate, will be the keynote speaker.
