New Administrative Building at Red Hill Apartment Complex Approaching Completion

(September 2009) The Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina’s Red Hill Apartment complex in Maxton, North Carolina is receiving a new administrative building which is scheduled to be completed by September 30, 2009.
“It is more than appropriate for $200,000 be invested in the residents at Red Hill and the surrounding community,” affirmedChairman Jimmy Goins. The complex has been in operation since the early 1980s without an administrative office and on April 30, 2009 the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina broke ground in preparation for the 1,800 square foot building.  “Currently, two apartment units are being utilized; one as the administrative office and the other as a meeting place for Robeson Community College to conduct its adult basic education classes,” remarked Jimmy Hunt, the Site Housing Manager. The construction of the new building will permit the units to become accessible to other low-income American Indian families. Presently, the 50-unit apartment complex has three vacancies and the new development will total the vacancies to five. According to Hunt, the new building will also be allocated as a multi-purpose facility in which the occupants will be able to use it for various functions.
The funding for the capital construction project has been provided by the Native American Housing and Self Determination Act (NAHASDA).  The development services are being provided by Metcon Construction, Inc.  For more information on this project please contact Leon Revels, New Construction Manager at 910.521.7861.
