Tribe Awards Contract for Saddletree Estates to Begin
(October 2009) Housing Director Bosco Locklear and New Construction Manager Leon Revels presented Kevin Keith Jacobs General Contracting, Inc. with the contract for the Saddletree Estates project on Thursday, October 8, 2009.
The elderly apartments in Tribal District 9 are scheduled to receive an additional two duplexes and an administrative building. The duplexes will render four new apartments for tribal elders. Each apartment will have two bedrooms and one bathroom. The 2,000 square foot administrative building will allow for an adequate work area to receive applicants and also serve as a multi-purpose facility in which the current occupants will have access.
The complex currently has 10 apartments, the addition will bring the total available apartments to 14 units. The Lumbee Tribe broke ground on the $798,000 capital project in 2008. The funding for the development is provided by Native American Housing and Self Determination Act (NAHASDA) and the contractor will be responsible for all permits, water lines, streets, materials, and labor and erosion control measures for the project.
