(July 2010) The Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina has partnered with The Benefit Bank of North Carolina (TBB-NC) to offer counselors at four tribal locations between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. for the purpose of applying for state and federal benefits.
The Benefit Bank of North Carolina is designed to help individuals apply for benefits they feel they may qualify for. Currently (TBB-NC) offers food assistance, medicare Rx extra help, income tax filing and Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FASFA). Benefits that are coming soon are low income energy assistance program, child care subsidies, TANF cash assistance, pharmaceutical discount programs, veterans’ non-medical benefits, and medicare part D.
The counselors do not approve or deny any individuals for the services offered by TBB-NChowever, they assist you through the application process. They will use simple interview questions necessary to fill out the applications online. Afterwards, the application is then printed or electronically submitted.
The process is a more personal and quicker way to find out what you would qualify for before going to an actual institution. It is also more user friendly in that the counselors are able to help the individuals navigate the application process. The services offered are free of charge.
The Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina is supplying four work sites for The Benefit Bank of North Carolina Counselors which are Hawkeye Boys & Girls Club (910.878.0000), Pembroke Boys & Girls Club (910.522.9005), First Nation Boys & Girls Club (910.608.3220) and the Lumbee Tribal Housing Complex (910.521.7861).
