Tribal Chairman speaks at annual spring luncheon

(May 2010) The Tribal Chairman appeared as the guest speaker for the Robeson County Retired School Personnel Annual Spring Luncheon on Tuesday, May 18, 2010 at the Pine Crest Country Club in Lumberton, North Carolina.
“The Tribe is about to open its fourth Boys & Girls Club and we need your help,” encouraged Tribal Chairman Purnell Swett.  “I have always seen the need for continued involvement by our retirees, and this is an opportunity to make a positive impact on the challenges facing our youth today.”
This annual event is to honor those educators who have passed on in the recent year, celebrating their life of service and contribution to education in Robeson County. “It is certainly an honor to stand before you today, I want to thank each and every one of you for paving the road for me to be able to the person that I am today,” commented Robeson County Retired School Personnel President Rosalyn L. Sampson.
This year’s luncheon honored the following deceased educators: Shirley McEachin-Tyson, Theodore Lowry, Geneva Page, Gladys Bullock-Emeritus and Thomas A. Walker. A special presentation was given for the Volunteer of the Year Award which went to Dr. Ruth D. Woods.
