Warriors Association hosted 3rd Annual Military Ball

The Lumbee Warriors Association hosted the Third Annual Military Ball at the Porter Plaza in Pembroke on Saturday, June 28, 2008.  Guest of Honor for the evening was Major General Robert C. Dickerson of the United States Marine Corps.  Major General Dickerson assumed joint command of Marine Corps Installations East and Marine Corps Base, Camp Lejeune on October 4, 2005.

“It is a real honor to have the Major General for the second time at the Warrior’s Military Ball” said Warriors Chairman and Tribal Councilor Furnie Lambert, Jr., of Tribal District 12.  “To have someone of his rank here, really speaks volume about our Warriors Association and the Lumbee Veterans Office.”

A social hour started at 6 p.m. with a reception and photograph opportunities.  Followed by the Presentation of Colors, the National Anthem, and a very special honoring ceremony for the Missing Warrior Table by Specialist Five Larry Townsend.

Lieutenant Gary Oxendine, a U.S. Navy veteran, had the honor and privilege of introducing Major General Robert Dickerson.  The Major General spoke graciously of our current armed forces and asked that we remember them in prayer. He underscored that the current troops have the capability, technology and the heart to win this war, because they volunteered, and were not drafted.

The Major General received a standing ovation for his inspiring insight and remarks of encouragement.  Music for attendees dancing pleasure was provided by Rollo.  The dinner menu consisted of shrimp as the appetizer, with rib eye steak and baked chicken, with Italian green beans, wild rice and tossed salad as the entrée for the evening.
