Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina recognized for its economic impact

(February 2010) The Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina was an award recipient during the Pembroke Area Chamber of Commerce Annual Banquet and Awards Program Saturday, February 6, 2010 at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke University Center Annex.
“Consequently, the Lumbee Tribe’s major capital projects have a two pronged community and economic development impact: a physical asset is added to the community and its construction is a substantial local economic multiplier,” explained R D Locklear, II as he introduced the Lumbee Tribe for the 2010 Advocate of the Year Award.
“We work very hard to ensure our major capital dollars are spent within the tribal territory, it is an honor and I thank you for recognizing us in this endeavor,” stated Vice Chairman and District 12 Representative Furnie Lambert as he accepted the award on behalf of the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina.

The past Advocate of the Year award recipients have been UNC Pembroke (2007), Robeson Community College (2008) and Lucille Locklear (2009). Business of the Year went to Caring Touch Home Health Care, the Appearance Award went to the Town of Pembroke – Recreation Complex and the Harry West Locklear Award went to Ms. Lucille Locklear
