Lumbee Crowns New Senior Ms Lumbee and AmbassadorsThe Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina crowned a new Senior Ms Lumbee over the 43rd Annual Lumbee Homecoming. Also crowned were new Lumbee Ambassadors by the Lumbee Regional Development Association (LRDA). Winning the title of 2011 Senior Ms Lumbee was Mrs. Linda Lowery. Mrs. Lowery is a resident of Lumberton and married to Henry Berry Lowery. She has two children and two grandchildren, and was sponsored by the Lumberton Heritage Group. She previously served as Ms. NC Indian Senior Citizen Coalition Princess for 2006-2007. Ms. Lowery is a member of Mount Olive Baptist Church and a member of the church choir. She volunteers in weekly Bible studies with her husband, and during her leisure time enjoys bowling. She loves fishing with her husband, and enjoys quilting. She has also been an active participant in the Senior Games for 10 years. Her activities include the 100 meter run, 200 meter run, and the 5k walk. Her winning talent was a dance drama to “I Don’t Need Your Rocking Chair.” The Lumbee Tribe has been sponsoring the Senior Ms Lumbee pageant through its Elders Department for three years. “This event gives tribal elders a chance to showcase Lumbee culture, while promoting our heritage, and providing an opportunity for our elders to share Lumbee values” said Natascha Tilson, Elders Manager. Second Runner Up was Ms Linda Rose Oxendine of the Union Chapel Heritage Group, with the First Runner Up being Ms Peggy Jean Kaser sponsored by the Cumberland Heritage Group. The Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina would also like to congratulate the Lumbee Ambassadors recently crowned by LRDA. They are: Miss Lumbee, Whitney McFarland; Teen Miss Lumbee, Taley Strickland; Junior Miss Lumbee, Alaina Malcolm, and Little Miss Lumbee, Calista Deal.
