Tribal youth slide across the ice at professional hockey game
(January 2011) Members of the Lumbee Boys & Girls Clubs recently participated in a professional hockey game at the Crown Coliseum in Fayetteville, NC. The youth were able to attend the Fayetteville Fireantz game because of donated tickets from a local dealership.
Lumberton Ford Lincoln Mercury is a corporate sponsor of the Fayetteville Fireantz, and donated thirty of its complementary hockey tickets to the Lumbee Boys & Girls Clubs (LBGC). “We wanted to give the tickets to those who don’t get the opportunity to have experiences like this very often,” stated Corporate Business Development Director Craig McMillian, “we are excited about the happiness and joy it brought to the youth.”
“I am humbled when I see local businesses making a difference by giving back to their communities,” said Chairman of the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina, “thank you Ford Lincoln Mercury.”
Tacoma Locklear from First Nations BGC began the game between the Fayetteville Fireantz and the Pensacola Ice Flyers by dropping the puck on the ice. “I will never forget how they recognized our children on the ice and let them participate,” said Boys & Girls Club Manager Verdia Deese, “I’m so thankful for what Lumberton Ford done for our youth.”
During breaks in the game Ventina Jacobs and Tangelina Jones from First Nations LBGC participated in a relay race on the ice, Patrick McMillian and Dillion Hunt from Hawkeye LBGC participated in a life-size bubble race, and Jullien Baxley from Pembroke LBGC participated in being slung-shot across the ice.
