Tribal Chairman presents proclamation to former NC Representative[photos]

            (January 2011) The Tribal Chairman of the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina presented a proclamation honoring Mr. Ronnie Sutton, Esq. for his years of service as a representative in the NC General Assembly at an appreciation dinner hosted by the community held Thursday, January 6th at the UNCP Annex.             “Thank you Representative Ronnie Sutton for all you have done,” said Tribal Chairman Purnell Swett at the Appreciation and Farewell Dinner held in honor of the former representative.  Tribal Chairman Swett then presented former Representative Sutton with a proclamation declaring Thursday, January 6, 2011 as Representative Ronnie Neal Sutton Day in the land of the Lumbee. Serving since 1993, Sutton was the only American Indian member of the NC General Assembly. “While my tenure as an elected official has come to an end, my role as a community leader continues,” commented Sutton, “one of my greatest satisfactions has been the ability to cut through the red tape involving citizens and their government.”[photos]
            The Lieutenant Governor of the State of North Carolina,  the Honorable Walter Dalton, presented the Order of the Long Leaf Pine on behalf of NC Governor Beverly Purdue. “You can be proud of all that Ronne Sutton has done, he was always focused on you,” stated Lieutenant Dalton.
The Mayor of the Town of Pembroke, Milton Hunt, presented Sutton with a key to the town. “We are proud of everything he has done, he has carried the ball for a long time and we will miss him,” said Mayor Hunt.[photos]
            Sutton was recently sworn in as President of the Robeson County Bar where he will continue to serve his community. Sutton will also continue practicing law at his own personal injury and criminal law firm in Pembroke. Sutton obtained his law degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill 1985. “I wish to thank all of the citizens of this district for their support, not only those present tonight but all those whom I have had the honor to represent,” concluded Sutton.
