Tribal Volunteer Program makes Christmas a reality for Tribal Youth
(January 2011) The Volunteer Program of the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina made Christmas a reality by gifting presents to Tribal youth across the Tribal territory on Monday, December 20, 2010 at the Tribal Housing Complex in Pembroke.[more photos]
The Lumbee Housing Complex was a drop-off site that allowed locals to deposit toys for children who would not have otherwise had a Christmas. “The holiday season is a special time of year, a time filled with excitement and anticipation. Sadly, many families living in our tribal territory do not have the means to purchase even the most basic holiday gifts,” stated Tribal Coordinator Morgan Warriax.[more photos]
The Lumbee Ambassadors assisted the Volunteer Program in presenting the gifts to the youth throughout the day. “What was most exciting was the sight of the children's eyes, especially when we brought the toys and clothing out,” commented Warriax. The ages of those selected ranged from newborn babies up to youth 18 years of age. “I am so grateful for all of the locals that participated, because without them this would not have been possible,” said Warriax.
