Bio: Mr. Mcduffie Cummings, Representative for District 6, resides in Pembroke, North Carolina with his greatest assets have always been my wonderful wife, Delora, and our children. My wife, Delora, has recently retired from teaching art at Purnell Swett High School. Our children are mostly a reflection of her unswerving dedication to the Christian life she has lived before them. Our children have honored Delora and me by carving out their own successful niches in life. McDuffie Jr. is the Chief of Police at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke; Lora is a successful veterinarian at North End Veterinary Hospital in Lumberton; Patrick is the Assistant Director of Emergency Medical Services for Robeson County; and Kresa is a pharmacist with Drugs America. I am also honored to be the son of Rev. Simeon (and Maude) Cummings. My father is a retired United Methodist minister and served with distinction at several churches in the area, most significantly at Prospect United Methodist Church where he led the church to become the largest Native American congregation in the country. My mother taught her children to always honor Christ and help others. My ideas concerning public service are reflections of my parents, and my other siblings, including my brother, Dr. Robin Cummings, the first Lumbee Cardio-Thoracic surgeon (heart surgeon), and Rev. Dufrene Cummings, who continues to honor Christ and his beloved parents as a minister. I served the last 34 years as Pembroke’s town manager. I have served on these boards and commission: 8 years on UNC-Pembroke Board of Trustees, 9 years on Robeson County’s Social Services Board, 2 Years as a member of the Board of Education for the Public Schools of Robeson County, 14 years as a member of the Southeastern Economic Development Commission Board, and Com Tech Board Member. At the age of 35, I was awarded the Order of the Long Pine Leaf by former Governor Jim Hunt. I promise to be a servant of the people and put my years of service and experience to good use for the people of the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina. WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
